3 Reasons You Don’t Have Be Embarrassed about Getting Dental Implants

As a human being, you’re going to feel embarrassed. Everyone does about something—whether it’s a physical attribute or something they said or did. For you, replacing teeth with dental implants is embarrassing. Your feelings are valid, but when you really think about it, you can actually feel excited about dental implants! Here are three good reasons you can be proud of your new smile.

Reason #1: Tooth Loss Is Common.

Sometimes, the source of embarrassment isn’t getting implants, but missing teeth in general. Especially in cases where tooth loss might have been avoided, a patient may feel self-conscious or ashamed of their circumstances.

However, they often don’t realize just how common tooth loss is! In fact, according to the American College of Prosthodontics, 120 million Americans are missing at least one tooth, and 36 million people have no natural teeth left at all. Needless to say, you’re far from being alone if you have lost one or more teeth.

Reason #2: Dental Implants Look the Most Natural.

Although traditional dentures and bridges have their merits, they only replace the visible portion of teeth. In contrast, dental implants substitute for lost tooth roots, which keeps the jawbone stimulated and strong. As a result, it doesn’t shrink or make your face appear sunken and older, as usually happens with tooth loss. You get to hold onto a more youthful facial shape, giving your confidence a significant boost.

In addition, because the implants replicate real teeth in structure, they tend to look a lot more realistic than other replacement options that just sit on top of the gums. As a result, you don’t have to worry about those around you noticing that your teeth are prosthetic.

Reason #3: Dental Implants Won’t Slip When You Smile, Talk, or Eat.

If you’ve had partial or full dentures before, you may have had the unpleasant experience of having your replacement teeth slip out of place at an inconvenient time. Whether you’re laughing at a joke, trying to chew your food, or talking to a group of friends, this can be an embarrassing situation.

Fortunately, dental implants are anchored to the jawbone, which means they’re not going anywhere! They are just as reliable as natural teeth. As a result, you can focus on enjoying the moment and not feeling overly concerned about your smile.

Although you may have felt embarrassed at first about getting dental implants, hopefully these reasons give you peace of mind about your choice. Instead of hiding or being too self-conscious about your smile, dental implants can give you more confidence and pride in yourself.
