Parma Heights laser dentistryParma Heights laser dentistry applies short bursts of focused light to treat dental problems such as cavities, gum disease and cosmetic dental issues.

Dentist are perfecting a great way to treat common dental problems and aesthetic concerns. It’s called laser dentistry. Parma Heights dentists, Dr. Vladimir Khramoy, and his associate Dr. Caroline Salib, employ the Fotana Lightwalker Dental Laser for a variety of hard and soft tissue dental treatments.

No pain and less bleeding

The Fotana Lightwalker Dental Laser and others like it have been used by general dentists for years to substitute short, high-energy, focused light beams for dental drills, scalpels and sutures. Known for accuracy, low heat and little collateral damage to surrounding hard and soft tissues, dental lasers are the dentist’s (and patient’s) treatment of choice when appropriate.

Parma Heights laser dentistry offers:

  • reduced pain (Most procedures do not even need local anesthesia, or pain shots.)
  • no drill Parma Heights fillings for small cavities
  • detection of tooth decay
  • debridement and disinfection of gums infected by advanced gum disease (periodontitis)
  • little or no bleeding and excellent antibacterial action
  • faster healing time
  • no need for sutures
  • precision cutting and sealing (ablation) of treated tissues
  • hardening of light-sensitive materials such as teeth whitening gels and cosmetic bonding resin
  • treatment of canker sores
  • disinfection of root canal abscesses

Some dentists even employ laser therapy for a variety of soft tissue dental services, including Parma Heights gum disease therapy.  Additionally, instead of conventional oral surgery to treat a child’s tongue tie (extra piece of skin under the tongue), the doctor uses the laser to remove the extra tissue and seal the wound. It’s a quick, less invasive process, with no stitches, little bleeding and less trauma overall.

The dental laser works well in some applications of sleep apnea therapy. In obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), the soft tissues at the back of the throat collapse, blocking the airway and causing snoring and systemic health issues. The dental laser can reduce the size of those soft tissues, allowing for freer passage of air.

Cosmetic applications of Parma Heights laser dentistry

Dr. Vladimir Khramoy is skilled in sculpting the soft tissue in the mouth for best smile aesthetics. Gummy smiles, in which excessive gum tissue makes healthy teeth look too short, respond well to laser treatment. Dr. Khramoy uses the laser light to expose more healthy tooth structure. The procedure is comfortable, bleeds less and heals faster than traditional gum sculpting treatments.
