Strongsville dental implants replace missing teeth

Strongsville dental implants Strongsville dental implants complete gapped smiles. Implant dentist, Dr. Vladimir Khramoy, tells implant candidates how this modern procedure works.

Ill-fitting dentures or gaps from missing teeth compromise smile function and aesthetics. Strongsville dental implants fill those gaps or can even support full or partial dentures, strengthening the jawbone and allowing patients to eat, smile and speak naturally.

What is a Parma Heights dental implant?

A dental implant is a prosthetic tooth.  Replacing a missing tooth from root to crown, this modern device consists of 3 parts:

  • a screw-like titanium implant which is surgically placed into the patient’s jaw
  • metal alloy abutment or post extending above the gumline
  • ceramic crown, bonded to the post

Strongsville implant dentist, Dr. Vladimir Khramoy,  evaluates patients and places implants right in the dental chair at Advanced Dental Center. Patients may receive one or more devices depending on whether they are replacing one or multiple teeth or even supporting partial or full dentures.

The implant procedure

The implant dentist determines a patient’s suitability for a dental implant by examining his or her mouth and taking x-rays. The patient should be in good overall and oral health and have adequate bone to anchor the implant. If bone is too thin, augmentation procedures which use donor tissue can build-up the implant site.

To begin the procedure, Dr. Khramoy incises the gums and drills a small pilot hole in the jawbone. Usually, this needs nothing more than local anesthesia to numb the area. The Strongsville implant dentist then screws in the implant and closes the gums.

Over the next several weeks, the bone fuses to the titanium implant. The fusion happens by way of osseointegration, an amazing bodily process in which the bone fully attaches itself to the implant, leaving no mobility whatsoever. During a subsequent dental visit, Dr. Khramoy bonds the metal alloy post and custom-made ceramic crown in place, and the dental implant is complete.

Living with a dental implant

Patients say that their Parma Heights dental implants feel and function like their real teeth. Plus, from the outside, a dental implant is virtually indistinguishable from its neighbors. Unlike traditional bridgework or dentures, dental implants strengthen the jaw bone, preserving youthful facial appearance and creating a firm foundation for eating the healthy foods patients enjoy.

Patients brush and floss their implants just as they do their natural teeth–twice a day with a quality fluoride toothpaste and flossing daily to remove plaque and tartar. Also, patients see the team at Advanced Dental Center for semi-annual exams and hygienic cleanings.

Success rates

Of course, natural teeth remain the best options for a healthy, good-looking smile. However, when teeth are lost to decay, gum disease or injury, implants create a superior replacement situation.

The Academy of Osseointegration indicates that more than 90 percent of implant procedures succeed, and more than 90 percent of the devices remain healthy and functioning for years. Factors such as poor oral hygiene and smoking can compromise implants–and, of course, natural teeth, too.
